Reaction Steps
Benzylamine (1.07 g; 10 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (1.38 g; 10 mmol) in methanol (10 cm3). A white solid formed immediately. The product was collected by filtration and recrystallized from water to produce white needle-like crystals. Found: C, 68.6%; H, 6.2%; N, 5.6%. Calculated for C14H15NO3 : C, 68.57%; H, 6.12%; N, 5.71%. M.pt. 229°-230° C.
