Benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid → 2-Benzofurancarbonyl chloride
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid | HCID 10331 | — |
| Reactant | Thionyl Chloride | HCID 24386 | — |
| Solvent | Benzene | HCID 241 | — |
| Product | 2-Benzofurancarbonyl chloride | HCID 38949 | — |
Reaction Steps
Thionyl chloride (12.5 ml) was added to a suspension of benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid (20 g) in anhydrous benzene (250 ml). The mixture was refluxed for 3 hours, then allowed to cool down to room temperature. Removal of the volatiles left the desired acid chloride (21.8g, 98%).
