Procedure
A stirred mixture of 6-(4-(N-cyano-S-methylisothioureido)phenyl)-5-methyl-4,5-dihydro-3(2H)-pyridazinone, (2 g), phenethylamine (8.4 ml) and pyridine (40 ml) was heated under reflux for 3 hours. The mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure to yield an oil, which on trituration with one normal acetic acid (17 ml) gave 1.1 g of a solid, m.p. 209°-210° C. Recrystallisation from ethanol gave the pure title compound, 0.64 g, m.p. 215°-217° C.
