4-Toluenesulphonyl chloride (2.6 g) was added in portions to a stirred solution of the product of step (a) (2.9 g) in pyridine (10 ml) at 0° C. The solution was stirred for 16 hours at 0°-5° C. then poured onto ice-hydrochloric acid and extracted with ether. The extract was washed with sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride solutions, dried and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with 1:1 dichloromethane:hexane to give the title compound as a colourless oil.
