1-[4-(2-Carbamoylpyridin-4-yloxy)-2-fluorophenylcarbamoyl]-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid benzyl ester (2 g) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (20 ml) at room temperature, and water (0.481 ml) was added. Iodobenzene diacetate (2.87 g) was added at room temperature with stirring, and the reaction mixture was stirred for 2.5 hours. Water (40 ml) was added to the reaction mixture, and the reaction was quenched by the addition of a 2N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide until pH became 11and ethyl acetate was added and the layers were separated. The organic layer was washed with water and a 5% aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated. The resultant crude brown oil was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent; heptane:ethyl acetate=1:1, then 1:2) to give the title compound (819 mg) as cream crystals.
