A mixture of cyclopentylhydrazine hydrochloride (1.07 g, 7.83 mmol), Boc-4-piperidone (1.57 g, 7.86 mmol) and K2CO3 (2.2 g, 16 mmol) in EtOH (20 mL) is heated at reflux for 3 hr. The mixture is filtered and the filtrated is concentrated to give the title compound as an oil that is used in the next step without further purification. MS (M+1): 282.2.
