Procedure
A solution of hydrazine hydrate (86 mg, 1.73 mmol) in ethanol (1 mL) was added dropwise to a stirred solution of ethyl 2-[4-(2-chloro-4-{[methoxy(oxo)acetyl]amino}phenyl)cyclo-hexyl]propanoate (0.58 g, 1.44 mmol) in ethanol (14 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 h. The mixture was filtered to leave a solid, which was washed with ethanol to give the title compound (Intermediate 106) (0.45 g, 81%) as a white solid; 1H NMR δ 1.14 (3H, d), 1.16-1.28 (2H, m), 1.27 (3H, t), 1.4-1.58 (2H, m), 1.6-1.7 (1H, m), 1.71-1.93 (4H, m), 2.29-2.39 (1H, m), 2.82-2.94 (1H, m), 4.15 (2H, dq), 4.7 (2H, s), 7.4 (1H, d), 7.8 (1H, dd), 8.01 (1H, d), 10.4 (1H, s), 10.8 (1H, s); MS m/e MH+ 396.
