1,1-Dimethylethyl 7-({2-(methyloxy)-4-[(methyloxy)carbonyl]phenyl}oxy)-1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-3H-3-benzazepine-3-carboxylate (E264, Step 3) (240 mg, 0.56 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (2 ml), treated with 2M sodium hydroxide (1 ml) and the resulting mixture was stirred for 1.5 hours. The mixture was acidified with 2M hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layers were combined, dried under magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound (0.15 g); MS (ES+) m/e 314 [(M+H)—CO2tBu]+.
