Procedure
To a solution of 6.0 g of 4-fluorophenol (manufactured by TOKYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, LTD.) in 60 ml of chloroform were added 6 ml of triethylamine and a solution of 4.0 g of 4-methoxybenzoyl chloride (manufactured by TOKYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, LTD.) in 40 ml of chloroform, and the mixture was stirred at 55° C. for 1 hour. The reaction solution was separated by adding to it 100 ml of dichloromethane, 200 ml of water, and 25 ml of a 1 N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then concentrated to obtain 8.1 g of the title compound.
