A mixture of 4′-[(4-butyl-2-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-5-yl)methyl]biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (1.22 g), 2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-2-ylmethanol (1.02 g), tributylphosphine (2.1 mL), 1,1′-[(E)-diazene-1,2-diyldicarbonyl]dipiperidine (1.72 g) and tetrahydrofuran (60 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 4 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, and the insoluble solid was filtered off. The solvent of the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless viscous substance (0.86 g, 52%).
