54.6 g (0.1 mole) of the tosylate of 1,1-bis-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-3,3-dimethylbutan-2-ol in 200 ml of dry dimethylsulfoxide were mixed with an equimolar amount of potassium tert.-butylate. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at room temperature, after which hydrolysis was effected with water, the mixture was extracted twice with the same volume of ethyl acetate, the extracts were dried and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure.
