Procedure
3 l (3,156 g) of 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (hereinafter referred to as DMI), 618.0 g (2.50 mol) of purified 2-(3-chloro-4-ethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropyl chloride obtained in the same manner as in Example 1, 1,251.0 g (6.25 mol) of m-phenoxybenzyl alcohol (a product of Ethyl Corp.) and 280.0 g (5.00 mol) of potassium hydroxide in the form of flakes were charged in a 5 l four-neck flask and stirred at 120° C. under nitrogen stream for 15 h to complete the reaction.
