Procedure

Nine grams of (90/10 parts by weight) of isobornyl acrylate and acrylic acid, 1 gram of Compound 1, 100 grams of ethyl acetate, 0.1 part of carbon tetrabromide (a chain transfer agent) and 0.1 gram of benzoyl peroxide were charged into a bottle. The bottle was purged with nitrogen for 10 minutes, capped, placed in a water bath at 60° C. and agitated for approximately 20-24 hours. The viscosity of the solution increased and the infrared spectrum of the polymer showed the disappearance of the vinyl monomer. The solvent was removed on a rotary evaporator. The mixture was precipitated in methanol and dried under vacuum to constant weight.
