Procedure
Five drops of glacial acetic acid are added at room temperature to a solution of 41.1 g of nicotinic acid hydrazide and 32.1 g of pyridine-3-carbaldehyde in 300 ml of ethanol. The reaction mixture, which exotherms slightly, is stirred for ca. 2 hours at room temperature. The precipitated product is isolated by filtration, washed with ca. 100 ml of ethanol and dried, affording the title compound of formula ##STR8## with a melting point of 213°-216° C.
