Procedure

A mixture of 3.76 g of the product of Step A in 94 ml of 94% ethanol and 94 ml of aqueous N hydrochloric acid was stirred under an inert atmosphere for 19 hours and was diluted with water and iced. The mixture was made alkaline by addition of 32% sodium hydroxide solution and was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with water, dried over a deshydrant, filtered and evaporated to dryness. The residue was chromatographed over silica and eluted with a 9-1 ethyl acetate-triethylamine mixture to obtain 2.18 g of 1,3-dihydro-4-[3-(2-{2-[1,1-dimethylethylamino]-ethoxy}-phenyl)-propyl]-2H-indol-2-one.
