Reaction Steps

To a mixture of 7 (7.9 g, 0.033 mol), H2O (60 ml) and concentrated HCl (150 ml) stirred at room temperature was added dropwise a solution of KC103 (1.5 g, 0.012 mol) in H2O (65 ml). After 4 1/2 hours, the suspension was filtered and the solid washed with H2O and dried in vacuo to yield 8.1 g (89%) of 55, m.p. 208-210.
