Procedure
A mixture of the product from Example 27 (2.5 g, 9.3 mmol), ethylene glycol (7.5 mL) and p-toluenesulfonic acid (60 mg) in toluene (100 mL) was heated at reflux with a Dean-Stark trap for 8 hours. The cooled mixture was washed with aqueous NaHCO3 and dried over MgSO4. Evaporation of the solvent gave a residue which was flash chromatographed on silica gel eluting with 65/35 hexane-ethyl acetate to give 2.3 g (79%) of product. NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3, ppm): 0.85-0.95 (4d, 12H), 3.5 (m, 1H), 3.95 (s, 4H), 4.15 (m, 1H).
