Procedure
2,5-Dimethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (19.7 g, 0.2 mmole) and ethanolamine (18.3 g, 0.3 mole) were dissolved in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (20 ml) and the stirred reaction mixture heated at 160° C. for 24 hours, then cooled to ambient temperature. The residual gum was chromatographed on silica eluting with ethyl acetate containing from 20% to 50% methanol. Evaporation of the appropriate fractions and trituration of the residual foam with ethyl acetate gave the title product (14 g, 50%).
