1.00 g (3.68 mmol) of 1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-carboxaldehyde [(2E)-3-methyl-1,3-benzothiazol-2(3H)-ylidene] hydrazone from Step 1 and 0.69 g (5.52 mmol) of bromoethanol in acetonitrile were heated at reflux for 2 hours. After the solvent was removed, the precipitate formed was suction-filtered off, washed with ethyl acetate and dried under vacuum.
