A mixture of 2-(2-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-5H-indolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine (300 mg) and palladium black (300 mg) in 3 mL of mesityline was stirred at 230° C. in a sealed tube for 1 h. The reaction mixture was filtered and the residue subjected to flash chromatography on silica gel with 30% ethyl acetate/hexane as the eluent. In this manner 2-(2-Fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)-5H-indolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine (Compound 1), m.p. 202°-203° C. was obtained as white crystals.
