A mixture of 5-butyramido-2-propylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (250 mg, 1.07 mmol), MeOH (20 mL), and concentrated aqueous HCl (2 mL) was heated to 45° C. for 16 hours. Concentration and neutralization with NaHCO3 gave 150 mg of the title compound as a glass. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.57 (d, 1H, J=8.5 Hz), 6.46 (d, 1H, J=8.5 Hz), 2.76 (t, 2H, J=7.5 Hz), 1.85-1.70 (m, 2H), 0.93 (t, 3H, J=7.5 Hz).
