Procedure

A 2.80 g. (0.0078 mole) portion of 3'-(5,6-dihydroimidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-6-yl)acetanilide perchlorate (Example 7) is converted to the free base and then dissolved in 15 ml. of 6N hydrochloric acid. The solution is stirred at reflux for 1.6 hours and then evaporated at reduced pressure. The residue is azeotroped with 2-propanol and crystallized from 95% ethanol/-2-propanol to give 1.69 g. (75%) of crystalline product, melting point 242°-244°C. Anal. Calcd. for C11H13Cl2N3S: C, 45.54; H, 4.52; Cl, 24.43; N, 14.48; S, 11.05. Found: C, 45.39; H, 4.66; Cl, 24.26; N, 12.27; S, 10.83.
