5-Ethoxycarbonyl-3-α-naphthyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (618 mg.) was dissolved in an ethanolic solution of dimethylamine (10 ml., 33% v/v). After 1 hr. The solution was evaporated leaving a residue that was recrystallised from methanol (3.5 ml.) to give title compound (424 mg.,) m.p. 109°-110°, λmax. (EtOH) 302.5 nm (ε 9,400) νmax. (CHBr3) 1660 cm.-1 (CONMe2).
