In the manner given in Example 28, a suspension of 1.00 mmole of 8-chloro-1-(phthalimido)methyl-2-methyl-6-(o-chlorophenyl)-4H-imidazo[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepine is treated with 5.00 mmole of hydrazine hydrate in 12ml. of absolute ethanol at room temperature for 18 hours to afford, after removal of the phthalazine by-product, 8-chloro-1-aminomethyl-2-methyl-6-(o-chlorophenyl)-4H-imidazo[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepine.
