1-Hydrazinoisoquinoline was heated with excess acetoxyglycolic acid. The residue was cooled, dissolved in chloroform and washed with sodium carbonate solution. The chloroform extracts were dried and concentrated invacuo to provide the crude product which was purified by recrystallization from benzene.
