2-Methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid → 2-Methyl-3-nitrobenzoyl chloride
Reaction equation
[CH3:1][C:2]1[C:10]([N+:11]([O-:13])=[O:12])=[CH:9][CH:8]=[CH:7][C:3]=1[C:4](O)=[O:5].S(Cl)([Cl:16])=O>>[CH3:1][C:2]1[C:10]([N+:11]([O-:13])=[O:12])=[CH:9][CH:8]=[CH:7][C:3]=1[C:4]([Cl:16])=[O:5]Participants

Procedure
100 g of 2-methyl-3-nitro-benzoic acid and 500 ml of thionyl chloride were refluxed for 15 hours and the mixture was then evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure to obtain 110 g of 2-methyl-3-nitro-benzoyl chloride which was used as in the synthesis.
Workup
- customthe mixture was then evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure
