Procedure
A mixture of 5.0 g 3-bromobenzyl alcohol, imidazole (3.64 g), dimethyl-t-butylchlorosilane (4.02 g) and N,N-dimethylformamide (25 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted three times with ether. The combined organic extract was washed with water, brine and dried. Evaporation gave the product as a colorless oil (6.83 g, 85% yield) which was used without further purification.
