To a cold solution of 16 g of n-heptylamine and 29.0 ml of triethylamine in 300 ml of methylene chloride was added dropwise a solution of 27.4 g of 4-butylbenzoylchloride in 100 ml of methylene chloride. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 41/2 hours and diluted with water. The organic layer was washed with 1N sodium hydroxide, brine, dried, and evaporated. The residual solid was recrystallized from hexane to yield N-heptyl-4-n-butylbenzamide, mp 37°-38° C.
