A solution of 0.27 part of 3-(2',6'-dichloro-anilino)-4-cyanodihydrothiophene in 15 parts by volume of dry methylene chloride is added, in the course of 30 minutes, to a solution of 0.12 part by volume of sulfuryl chloride in 15 parts by volume of dry methylene chloride at 0° C. The end product is isolated from the reaction mixture by the method described in Example 1c. 0.20 part (75% of theory) of 3-(2',6'-dichloroanilino)-4-cyanothiophene of melting point 105°-108° C. are obtained.
