Procedure
To a solution of ethyl 2-(2-oxo-1,3-dithiol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetate (syn isomer, 1 g.) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml.) and ethanol (20 ml.) was added a solution of sodium carbonate 10 hydrate (1.3 g.) in water (20 ml.), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. After the solvent was removed in vacuo; the residue was washed with diethyl ether, adjusted to pH 2 and extracted with diethyl ether. The extract was washed with a saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give 2-(2-oxo-1,3-dithiol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetic acid (syn isomer, 0.2 g.).
