Procedure

To a stirred solution of 6.06 g of 10, 11-dihydro-10-(4-aminobenzoyl)-5H-pyrrolo[2, 1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine and 10 ml of N,N-diisopropylethylamine is added a solution of 4.0 g of 2-chloropyridine-3-carbonyl chloride in 25 ml of methylene chloride. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture is quenched with water and the organic layer washed well with water. The organic layer is dried, filtered and evaporated in vacuo to a pale yellow product which is crystallized from 1:1 ethyl acetate:hexane to give 7.0 g of the desired product; M+ =442.
