2-aminonicotinic acid (1.381 g, 10 mM) and formamide (2.70 g, 60 mM) are heated at 165-170° C. for 2 h by means of an oil bath. The reaction mixture is cooled and the resulting solid recrystallized from water to give about 1.030 g of title compound (70% yield). mp 255-8° C.
