The derivative 3,3-dimethyl-benzisoselenazoline (148 mg; 0.7 mmole) was dissolved at room temperature in ethyl ether (4 ml). Triethylamine (107 μl; 0.77 mmole) and acetyl chloride (54 μl; 0.77 mmole) were added. A white precipitate appeared immediately. After 1 h, 1 ml of water was added to the reaction mixture. The crude product was extracted with 3×20 ml of dichloroethane. The organic phases were combined, washed with 2×20 ml of a saturated NaCl solution, dried over MgSO4 then filtered. The solvent was evaporated off under reduced pressure. The desired product was obtained after purification by liquid chromatography on a silica column (eluent: cyclohexane-ethyl acetate, 1/1).
