Procedure

The above di-t-butylphosphonate (0.5 g) was dissolved in 3 mL of methanol and treated with 0.5 mL of 3 N HCl and allowed to stand at r.t. for 30 min. The solution was concentrated and the residue was redissolved in 10 mL of water and washed with 10 mL of ether. Evaporation of the aqueous layer gave 0.14 g of 2,3,3-trifluoro-2-propenylphosphonic acid as a yellow oil.
