Triethylamine (8.0 g) was added to a solution of 18.5 g of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-mesyloxymethyl-2-pyrrolidinone and 17.6 g of 1-(2-methoxyethyl)piperazine in 50 mL of acetonitrile, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 4 hours. After concentrating, water was added to the reaction mixture to precipitate crystals, which were then collected by filtration and dried in vacuo to give 18.5 g of the title compound.
