Procedure
A mixture of 2-naphthyl carboxylic acid (3.0 g, 17 mmol) and N,N'-carbonyidiimidazole (3.1 g, 19 mmol) in dry tetrahydrofuran (75 ml) was stirred at reflux temperature for 1 h. To the cooled reaction mixture was added 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (1.5 g, 17 mmol) and the resulting mixture was refluxed for 2.5 h. The cooled reaction mixture was quenched with water (150 ml) and the precipitate was filtered off and washed with water (2×20 ml), heptane (2×20 ml) and diethyl ether (2×20 ml), dried in vacuo at 50° C. affording 2.55 g (61%) of the title compound as a solid.
