Following the procedure of Example, 1, Part E, 3-ethylthio-4-(4-nitrobenzyl)-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4triazole was reduced with stannous chloride to give (after multiple extractions with ethyl acetate in addition to ether) an 82% yield of the amine as a solid, mp 126.5°-127° C., homogeneous by TLC in 9:1 CH2Cl2 --MeOH, mass spectrum (FAB) m/e 311 (M+1)+.
