Procedure
A solution of 2,3-dihydro-2,6,7-trimethyl-5-[(2-methyl-2-propenyl)oxy]-1H-indole-1-carbaldehyde (0.59 g, 2.3 mmol) in N,N-diethylaniline (3 mL) was stirred at 200° C. for 4.5 hours under the nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was dissolved in diethyl ether, washed with 1N hydrochloric acid, water and saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate-diisopropyl ether to obtain 0.41 g of the title compound.
