Procedure
To di(tert-butyl) (2S,4S)-4-methylpyrrolidine-1,2-dicarboxylate (Ref: J. Amer. Chem. Soc., 1996, 118, 36, 8700–8706, 2.4 g, 8.42 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (15 mL) was added TFA (15 mL) and the reaction was stirred for 2 hours. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and re-dissolved in CH2Cl2 (15 mL), TFA (15 mL) was added and the reaction was stirred for 1 hour. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo to afford (4S)-4-methyl-L-proline trifluoroacetate and used directly in the next step.
