3-(3-Isopropenyl-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzoimidazol-1-yl)-hexanoic acid ethyl ester (1 g, 3.2 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (30 mL) and HCl (30 mL) solution at room temperature. The solution was heated to 60° C. for 2 hours. The solution was cooled down and was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layer was dried with MgSO4 and was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated and the residue was purified by CombiFlash with 5% MeOH in CH2Cl2 as the eluent to afford the desirable product 3-(2-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzoimidazol-1-yl)-hexanoic acid ethyl ester (700 mg, 80%) as a colorless oil.
