To a solution of (S)-3-[Benzyl-((S)-1-phenyl-ethyl)-amino]-hexanoic acid ethyl ester (20.8 g, 59 mmol) in EtOH (50 mL) was added Pd(OH)2 (20% in carbon) (2 g). The mixture was stirred under hydrogen atmosphere with 40 psi for 16 hours. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue (8.2 g, 87%) was used in the next step of the synthesis without further purification.
