A mixture of 2-methyl-2-(2-nitro-phenylamino)-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (638 mg, 2.3 mmol), 10% Pd/C (110 mg) in EtOH (25 mL) under H2 atmosphere at room temperature was stirred for 30 min. The reaction mixture was filtered and the organic layer was concentrated to give the desired 2-(2-amino-phenylamino)-2-methyl-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (570 mg, 100%).
