Procedure
To a solution of 5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole-7-carboxylic acid methyl ester (260 mg, 0.97 mmol) in Et2O (50 mL) was added LAH (40.5 mg, 1.1 mmol) at 0 C under nitrogen atmosphere. The solution was warmed to room temperature. Sat. NaHCO3 was added and the solution was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layer was dried with MgSO4 and was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated and the residue was purified by CombiFlash with 50% EtOAc in Hexane as the eluent to afford the desirable product (5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indol-7-yl)-methanol (200 mg, 86%) as colorless oil.
