Procedure
To a flask containing a solution of tin (II) chloride dehydrate (1.71 g, 7.6 mmol) in concentrated HCl (5 mL) is added a solution of N,N,2,2-tetramethyl-N′-(2-nitrophenyl)propane-1,3-diamine (635 mg, 2.5 mmol). The reaction is stirred for 16 h and is neutralized by the addition of 4M aqueous NaOH. The mixture is extracted with CH2Cl2 and the organic layer is separated, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to afford the title compound (504 mg, 90%) as an oil.
