Procedure
To a mixture of N-[4-chloro-2-(morpholin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl]-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (3.8 g, 11.8 mmol) in concentrated sulfuric acid (35 mL) cooled to 0° C. is added potassium nitrate (1.4 g, 14.1 mmol). The reaction is slowly warmed to room temperature over a period of 2 h and is then poured into ice water. The mixture is neutralized with saturated aqueous K2CO3 and the resulting solid is isolated by filtration to afford the title compound (3.6 g, 82%).
