Procedure
Water (9 ml) and 4N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (9 ml) were added to a solution of 1-(3-chloro-5-methylpyridin-2-yl)-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.03 g) in ethanol (18 ml) at room temperature, and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 3.5 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was cooled to 0° C. and 1N hydrochloric acid aqueous solution (38 ml) was added. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration to give the titled compound (654 mg) as a light brown solid.
