To 8-(5-bromopyridin-2-yl)-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decane-8-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.0 g) described in Reference Example 81 (2) was added trifluoroacetic acid (1.1 ml) at room temperature, and stirred at the same temperature for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solvent and trifluoroacetic acid were evaporated. The obtained residue was purified with silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/ethyl acetate) to give 1-(5-bromopyridin-2-yl)-4-oxocyclohexanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester (803 mg) as a colorless oil.
