A solution of cadmium nitrate in methanol was added to a solution of sodium myristate, also in methanol. To obtain high quality cadmium myristate, the sodium myristate solution was heated to about 90° C. until all of the particles are dissolved. Afterward, the cadmium nitrate solution was injected slowly, drop-wise, and the reaction was allowed to take place. The temperature was then reduced to room temperature where the cadmium myristate powder began to precipitate below 65° C. The powder was then collected, filtered, and dried in a box oven. The dried cake was then crushed to produce fine particles of cadmium myristate.
