tert-Butyl ((4-isopropylpyrimidin-5-yl)methyl)carbamate (1.0 equiv.) was combined in DCM (3.8 M) and cooled to 0° C. Hydrogen chloride (4 M) in dioxanes (3.1 equiv.) was then added via syringe. The solution was allowed to stir at ambient temperature. After 5 h, additional solution of hydrogen chloride (4 M) in dioxanes was added and stirring continued. After another 2 h, the volatile organic solvents were removed under reduced pressure to afford (4-isopropylpyrimidin-5-yl)methanamine dihydrochloride (95% yield) as a bis hydrochloride salt. MS (ESI) m/z 151.3 [M+1]+.
