Procedure

A mixture of (1S,3R)-3-(((benzyloxy)carbonyl)amino)-2,2-dimethylcyclobutanecarboxylic acid (2.6 g, 9.38 mmol), ammonium chloride (2.0 g, 37.5 mmol), TEA (2.84 g, 28.2 mmol) and 2-(7-aza-1H-benzotriazole-1-yl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate (5.35 g, 14.1 mmol) in dry DMF (52 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The reaction was quenched with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to afford the crude product, which was purified by HPLC (10-50% acetonitrile in water) to afford the title compound (1.86 g, 6.71 mnmol, 66% yield for two steps). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ (ppm) 7.40-7.30 (m, 5H), 5.51-5.37 (m, 1H), 5.27-5.17 (m, 1H), 5.15-4.96 (m, 3H), 3.96-3.87 (m, 1H), 2.48-2.39 (m, 1H), 2.37-2.27 (m, 1H), 2.15-2.05 (m, 1H), 1.31 (s, 3H), 0.96 (s, 3H). MS (ESI) m/z 277.1 [M+H]+.
